About Form 1382

In 1931, Form 1382 set the benchmark for modern tableware. Now 75 years young, the design has remained unchanged right up to the present day – a classic that is as contemporary as it is timeless.

As with his contemporaries at the Bauhaus, Dr. Ing. Hermann Gretsch relied on form and function to guide his design. His quest: to design a soup tureen that could be emptied with a ladle. The result: Form 1382. “Pure, Unadorned, Timeless,” Gretsch’s language for porcelain continues to epitomize Arzberg’s design philosophy.

Housed in the design collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Tate Modern, Form 1382 was recently listed as #202 in Phaidon Design Classics (May 2006).

In 2006, Arzberg released limited edition tea sets in the Bauhaus colors of Black, Red, Blue and Yellow to celebrate the 75th anniversary of this classic.
